As a child, my family moved around a lot, so I attended many different schools all over Texas, New York, North Carolina, Washington, and of course Utah. Outside the U.S., I have visited Canada, various parts of Mexico, Jamaica, and Grand Cayman in the Caribbean.
I attended college at Brigham Young University , where I learned to speak Spanish, lived in the Spanish House, and spent some time in Mexico on a study abroad. I also served a mission for the LDS church. Education has always been a big part of my life. I love to learn and I love kids. It was a very natural step for me to become a teacher. I especially enjoyed a job I had in high school as a Teacher's Assistant in a Private Montessori School. It was this experience that opened my eyes as to what education could and should be.
I had another part time job in between some of my teaching years in the '90's where a company called Net Schools had this incredible idea of placing a lap top into the hands of every child and setting up wireless networks in the classroom. I helped them to research and correlate educational websites with state and national curriculum. I also designed curriculum for teachers. At the time, this company was way ahead of the rest of the world with the use of technology in the classroom. Now, this is a regular occurrence and it makes teaching even better.
Here I am, after twelve years of teaching other people's children as well as four of my own. I have my Gifted and Talented Endorsement and am currently enrolled in a graduate program at BYU. It has been a good adventure so far and I am looking forward to it getting even better. This is going to be the best year yet at Rocky Mountain!
